Hello friends! Welcome to the What To Wear series on the KP blog. Today I want to chat with you about what you should wear as a guest to a wedding with cocktail attire requested. Cocktail attire means well dressed but less formal than a black tie wedding. You need to know the details so you can arrive looking sharp and ready to party!

Do’s for her – Cocktail dress, tea length dress or if you’re more comfortable in pants a dressy jumpsuit is appropriate. Also, look into the venue the wedding is taking place. Is it outside in grass? That might change your mind on which heels you plan to wear! Check to see where you will be spending the evening and dress accordingly. If you choose to wear a pantsuit or jumpsuit, go more to the dressy side instead of casual. It’s better to be over dressed and not underdressed!

Don’ts for her – Long formal gowns are a no-no. Remember, you don’t want to upstage the bride! Also avoid bright colors or bold patterns.

Do’s for him – A suit and tie. Darker hues in cooler months and lighter grey during the summer months is appropriate. Your suit should be one solid color with no distractions. Of course if you are a fun tie kind of guy, it’s still acceptable to be you and wear what you feel comfortable in! I suggest to try to match the tie in the same color family to compliment your suit (or your date!). 

Don’ts for him – Tuxedos, this is more appropriate for a black tie wedding or formal wedding. Also, avoid bright colors and bold patterns.

And always as a reminder, never wear white unless you are the one getting married!
