My Journey Into The Wedding Industry
Hello love!
My journey into the event business and owning a Wedding Planning Studio in Birmingham went a little faster than I ever thought it could.
It all started when I met a lady while in high school who said she planned events for a local baseball team and I thought how much fun that could be! Throughout college I focused on learning about events which lead me to become the social chair of my sorority. Quickly I became overwhelmed and questioned if I could actually make a career out of this. While I enjoyed the creative aspect of planning events, pleasing the many women in my sorority was very difficult. I then got a little knocked down after my year was up and thought “Now what?”
Quickly after, a sweet friend of mine informed me of an internship with a Birmingham wedding planner who insisted I meet. I went for an interview, was hired at the interview and started working immediately. That’s when I fell in love with weddings. Only attending THREE weddings my whole life before entering the industry, I finally saw the joy people had on their wedding day and how I could help make that happen. I stayed with this company throughout college and enjoyed every moment.
After graduating from Montevallo I was offered a job at the Birmingham Zoo as their event coordinator. What a dream!! I loved animals & loved events what a perfect combination! After staying there for a year, I knew something was missing. I didn’t have any design plans, I knew my creative side was wanting to shine and I didn’t have much room in my position to do that.
Meanwhile I was still involved planning weddings as a “side business” with the company I interned with. Continuing to do so, I decided to be more involved with brides which lead me to selling wedding gowns at Bella’s Bridal! Now this I love. Knowing I could still plan weddings but be more interactive with brides, perfection! I was still working my two jobs, at Bella’s and planning weddings, which lasted about 2 years before I decided it was time to become a business owner in the industry.
Now, I’m entering the industry as a business owner. I get asked often why I chose to be a wedding planner and this journey is how it became my life. I love seeing the joy the bride and groom have on their wedding day, it’s the best part of my job.
I would love to be apart of your big day! I am available in Birmingham, Alabama and beyond!
Xo,
Kendal
