Hello friends!
Today starts my guest blog series for a few of my favorite wedding photographers in Birmingham! First goes to my precious friends, Alex & Sara Lucas with AL Weddings. I absolutely love working with these two because they make the wedding day so much fun! Enjoy getting to know them!
1. How long have you been apart of the wedding industry as a photographer?
We have been shooting weddings together since 2013! 6 Years has gone by so fast!
2. Did you always know that you wanted to photograph weddings?
Alex certainly did although he never believed it was something he was going to do on a career level. He dabbled in photography throughout high school and actually shot his very first wedding for a teacher when he was still a student there. He went on to get a degree in Graphic and Web Design but decided wedding photography was his true love. I (Sara) certainly had no clue I was going to be a wedding photographer. I remember sitting in on a photographer's talk for career day in high school and this guy made photography seem like the worst career ever and to absolutely NOT pick it. SO, I didn't. I chose to be a nurse instead because him stating photography was "very competitive, you make no money and everyone can be pretty rude in the industry" was not my jam. I went to school got my degree in Nursing, passed my NCLEX and worked for 2 years before I realized "I am working all the time, this job is well under valued and I don't get paid near enough for the things I deal with" so I fell full time into wedding photography with Alex. Best decision ever!
3. On wedding day, what is your favorite thing or part of the day to photograph?

We really love two parts equally ... bride getting ready with her mom is a TOP fave forever. There is just something so sweet about a Mom helping prep her daughter for the start of a new beginning. We also really love doing portraits after the ceremony. The emotions there are so different than the ones after a first look and we just really love the way a couple looks at each after they realize ... oh my gosh ... We are ACTUALLY MARRIED!

4. Who is your ideal client?
Our ideal client is a couple that is not only in love but are also best friends above everyone else. Their wedding day is about them getting married but they are equally excited to celebrate with their friends too! They want to be connected to everyone that is with them on their wedding day including vendors and crave an experience that can make their wedding day so much more special.
5. What advice would you give a future bride?
Pick your photographer based on a variety of reasons not just because their work is pretty or because they fit in your budget. Those things are important but picking someone you also connect with on a personal level will allow you to feel more natural in front of a camera. A photographer is around you for almost your entire wedding day and you want to select someone that will make your day better and make you happier just because they are there. Lastly, never underestimate the power of a serving heart in someone. So often nowadays many photographers forget it's not about them on the wedding day ... it's about the couple and they serve based on selfish reasons not based on the best interest of their couple. Take that love for people into consideration when picking people to surround yourself with.
7. We LOVE working together, but how do you think the client benefits from working with us as a team?
Many people see a preferred vendors list and they may look at it but they don't know the importance of working off that list. We all know not everyone works well together. Not saying that people don't get along but everyone holds different values on the day of. So it's actually a huge bonus for you to pick someone that vendors are familiar working with. You know if they made it on that list they are preferred for a reason. We love working with Kendal because we know we can put so much trust in her on the wedding day and we don't need to spend time double-checking on her to make sure things are getting done that will make sure we continue to run smoothly. She knows what we need from her to give the couple an incredible experience and that speaks volumes on how smooth a wedding can truly run.

Hey friends! Thanks for stopping by the KP blog where we chat a little about me and all about weddings! Today I want to share with you the ultimate guide to addressing your wedding invitations. I know addressing invitations can get a little overwhelming and slightly confusing when deciding on the correct terminology for your guests. Below you will find several examples of how to address your wedding invitations!

A Married Couple

On the outer envelope:

Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Sandra Smith

-or-

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith

On the inner envelope:

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

-or-

Joe and Sandra

An Unmarried Couple Living Together

As with a married couple, both names should be included on the envelopes, but in this case, each name gets its own line.

On the outer envelope:

Mr. Robert Hill
Ms. Rebecca Wright

On the inner envelope:

Mr. Hill
Ms. Wright

A Same-Sex Couple

Use the same rules you would for any other unmarried or married couple. If the couple is married, list the names on the same line.

On the outer envelope:

Ms. Robin Benson and Ms. Jackie Foster

-or-

Robin Benson and Jackie Foster

On the inner envelope:

Ms. Benson and Ms. Foster

-or-

A Married Woman Doctor or Two Married Doctors

If a woman uses her maiden name professionally and socially,

the envelopes should read:

On the outer envelope:

Dr. Annie Bright and Mr. Peter Blaire

If she uses her husband's name socially:

Dr. Annie and Mr. Peter Blaire

If both parties are doctors, you can address the outer envelope:

Doctors Annie and Peter Blaire

On the inner envelope:

Dr. Bright and Mr. Blaire

-or-

The Doctors Blaire

Those With Other Distinguished Titles

Apply the same rules you use for doctors for military personnel, judges, reverends and so on.

If both titles don't fit on one line, indent the second line.

On the outer envelope:

The Honorable Lisa Kelly and Lieutenant Johnathan Kelly, US Navy

If they're both captains in the military:

Captains Lisa and Johnathan Kelly, US Navy

On the inner envelope:

Judge Lisa and Lieutenant Kelly, US Navy

-or-

The Captains Kelly

Children and Families

Younger guests can be included on the inner envelope of their parents' invitation

by their name(s)—they should not be addressed on the outer envelope.

For girls under 18, use “Miss."

Boys don't need a title until they're 18—then they're addressed as "Mr."

Mr. and Mrs. Jason Hughes
Daniel, Jacob, Miss Bella and Miss Kylie

Children 18 and Older

Children 18 and older should receive their own invitations

(unless they're living at home with their parents).

On the outer envelope:

Ms. Audrey Kelly

-or-

Mr. Jack Kelly

On the inner envelope:

Ms. Kelly

-or-

Mr. Kelly

Hello sweet friends!

I'm so excited to chat with you today about some of my favorite venues in Birmingham! Choosing a venue is one of the most important decisions during your engagement. Your venue sets the entire feel for your wedding! I've had the pleasure of working at some of the best venues in Alabama which most are here in Birmingham! Enjoy my top picks of my favorite wedding venues in Birmingham, Alabama.

One of my first picks for one of the best places to say your vows is Park Crest in Hoover, Alabama. They have several options for your beautiful wedding, whether you want to have your intimate ceremony outside in the Gardens or in their beautiful Carriage House, you can't go wrong for a beautiful ceremony. Then your guests get to head downstairs for a more industrial style reception. Their beautiful bar and large stage with dance floor area makes the reception perfect!

A newer Birmingham wedding venue is beautiful Belle Farm. It has a sweet southern feel which is perfect for us Alabama girls! They have a beautiful outdoor location for your private ceremony, then you can head on inside for the reception! The property features an adorable bridal suite where you & your girls can get ready and enjoy a few mimosas before you say I Do! Seriously I could stay in that suite forever!

Next up, is Vulcan Park & Museum. Talk about a Birmingham view!! This is one of the best places to really get to see all of Birmingham. This venue offers an overlooking terrace for your ceremony where you can see the entire city. I've had the opportunity to work there a couple of times where we've flipped the ceremony terrace for the reception as well as had a reception where we moved inside to their Electra room.

Photographer: Landon Meserve

For a more intimate ceremony, I love Aldridge Gardens in Hoover. Their natural beauty is one of my favorites! Every bride who choses to get married here always have a beautiful intimate ceremony and it is just breathtaking. The amount of places for photos is unreal!

Photographer: AL Weddings

Another beautiful intimate venue is Swann Lakes in Birmingham. Their lawn for the ceremony is absolutely perfect. The natural beauty around the venue sets a beautiful space for your wedding. They have an amazing barn and outdoor patio with a huge stone fireplace for the reception. One of my favorite places at Swann Lakes is their creek running through the property which sets a beautiful backdrop for couple photos.

Photographer: Lauren Bailey

Next up, Stonewood Farms in Tuscaloosa. What can I say, look at that grand entrance! They have a beautiful pool which overlooks Lake Tuscaloosa and it is perfect for your reception. They also have an adorable garden which most people chose to have their ceremony, but with a little rain in the forecast you can easily move the ceremony under their amazing back porch.

Photographer: Eric & Jamie Photography

I might have saved the best for last, one of my all time favorite venues in Alabama is Pursell Farms. Just a quick drive to Birmingham, Pursell Farms offer an incredible getaway weekend for you and your guests. Their staff and amenities are absolutely perfect and you can easily have a stress free wedding at Pursell! I love their ceremony site over looking the lake and their breathtaking Hamilton Place for the reception.

Hello brides!!

Recently I've had several girls ask me just how to preserve their wedding bouquet so I wanted to give you a few ideas below! My bridal bouquet was absolutely beautiful and I knew I wanted to keep it forever. There are so many options for your bouquet, whether you want to just air dry or freeze dry, here are a few helpful tips!

Air Drying your flowers is a pretty simply DIY project, however all of those beautiful colors of your wedding bouquet may not remain. This is one of the popular ways to preserve if you simply don't want to throw them away. You can also get them professionally pressed, which can keep more of the color and shape of your beautiful flowers in your bouquet.

One of my personal favorite ways to preserve a bouquet, is sending it off to get it freeze-dried and then put into a shadow box. Ageless Blooms in Birmingham does an amazing job at preserving flowers. She can place them for you in any shadow box so you can display them in your hallway or bedroom at your new home with your hubby!

Have you preserved your flowers in a different way? Drop a comment below to tell me new ideas on how to preserve your wedding flowers!

xoxo,

Kendal
